Playing with Static Electricity

Not long ago, Craig went to the park to play on his favourite slide. It was a cool day and he was wearing ski pants that are water-resistant nylon on the outside and fleece on the inside plus a fleece top. When combined with the friction of him sliding down a plastic tunnel there was enough static electricity to make his hair stand on end when he reached the bottom. Craig's Mum was extra-cautious about touching him, as you can see.

A New Toy!!!

Craig has a brand new erm.... potty. Craig's Mum thought it was about time to begin getting Craig used to the idea of using a toilet. Craig sat on it briefly when it was first unpacked at home.

He also checked out its inner workings.

And tried it out for speed.

He then gave it a second, more thorough going over.

Craig spent quite a long time familiarising himself with the inner parts of the potty.

Then, he was back on the seat to ride it again.

Such was Craig's concentration on the potty, it took a long time for Craig's Dad to get a picture of Craig looking at the camera. And, even when he did, the look on Craig's face was not beautiful.

And, soon after Craig was back to one of his other favourite games, ripping up the soft floor tiles that are supposed to be his play area. Such is life.

Pictures Taken with a (Proper) Camera

These pictures were taken in our local TGI Fridays during a Thursday lunch about a month ago. One man sitting at another table named Joseph Liu took the pictures. Thank you Joseph!

Joseph had a really big camera and it seems to have taken much better quality pictures than Craig's Dad's camera-phone.

Sometimes, Craig will cooperate and look at the camera when his picture is being taken but not often. This was one of the few times when he did cooperate.

As usual, the Fridays staff had given Craig a balloon to play with. He likes their balloons quite a lot.

Craig doesn't mind sitting on the floor in public places even if his parents really would rather he didn't.

It must have been at least a month ago that the pics were taken because it has been at least that long since Craig's Dad has worn a short sleeved polo shirt.

Walking with the Extended Family

It was Uncle Amitha and Aunty Bess's last night in Taiwan before going back to freezing New York State. So, the extended family decided to have a get-together at TGI Fridays but the first picture was just Craig and his parents.

Craig's Aunty Suprana and his cousin Soit-Jade were also in attendance.

As soon as he had finished eating Craig performed a safety check on a nearby fire extinguisher.

It was a very throrough check.

When dessert arrived, all the adults showed plenty of interest.

But only Aunty Bess didn't look up when Craig's Dad asked them to look at the camera for a picture. She was too busy with the dessert.

After the first dessert was shared out equally.......

A second dessert arrived and Aunty Bess was first to get at that one too!!!

After all that food, and especially dessert, most of the extended family went for a walk. It was a cold evening and Craig and his Dad often walk through the MRT station on cold days. So, Craig led the way towards the station.

It's a shame there aren't more pictures of this walk because Craig had a really good time. While Uncle Amitha held his hand, Craig yodelled away as he walked and enjoyed himself all out of proportion to the fun being had by others but perception is everything and the perceptions of a one-year-old are hard for we older folk to understand.

Uncle Dean's Birthday

This was a very special day for Craig because it featured his very first trip to a KTV. But first there was dinner and apple for dessert on the second floor with all the relatives.

Craig ate his dessert on the run while Aunty Bess tried to make sure he didn't break anything.

Just doing that kept Aunty Bess pretty busy.

The big event of the day was Uncle Dean's birthday. There was cake for all the big people.

Craig and his cousin Soit-Jade came to see all the adults sing Happy Birthday to Uncle Dean.

Then, Uncle Amitha and Aunty Bess, Uncle Dean and Aunty Suprana, plus Craig's Mum and Dad went to a KTV to celebrate Uncle Dean's birthday properly. As soon as they arrived, Craig decided to help his Mum programme in the songs to be sung.

Craig helped so much that he and his Mum moved away from the computer so that Craig couldn't help quite so much.

Craig sat on his Dad's lap while Aunty Suprana belted out a tune.

And, then Craig sang into a cup.

Craig had a lot of fun at the KTV and he was so lively that almost everyone had to take a turn at looking after him. Aunty Bess was very good at keeping him out of the way while his Mum was singing.

And, while Craig's Dad and Uncle Dean dueted on a now-forgotten tune.....

Craig made sure Aunty Bess wasn't getting into trouble.

After-Dinner Watermelon Seeds

Craig is a very friendly boy. There is no possible way that he could remember his Uncle Amitha from the last time they met but Craig seemed to enjoy Uncle Amitha's company whenever Uncle Amitha was taking care of him.

Craig also had a great time playing with Aunty Bess. According to the current theories about little children and their memories Craig shouldn't remember Aunty Bess either but he seemed to giggle a lot whenever she played with him.

Almost as good as ball games that made Craig giggle hysterically was Aunty Bess cracking watermelon seeds and then feeding them to Craig.

Craig really likes the seeds and he stood very still waiting for Aunty Bess to supply more.

Cold Wet Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year has been cold and wet every single day. So, it was another cold, wet morning in Taipei and Craig's Mum was at the hospital visiting Craig's Taiwanese Grandad. While waiting for Craig's Dad to make toast for breakfast, Craig watched videos of himself that Craig's Mum had filmed especially for him.

Then, Craig and Craig's Dad went shopping. On the way back they stopped so Craig's Dad could take a picture outside of the campaign office of the DPP presidential candidates Frank Hsieh and Su Tseng-chang. Craig concentrated on eating newly purchased biscuits. He's not much interested in politics.

Craig then visited the ATM nook that he likes so much.

He then began unpacking the shopping a little too early.

It only took a minute to find what he really wanted.

He knew exactly what he wanted and didn't have any trouble taking a small packet of just two biscuits out of the bigger pack to give to his Dad to be opened. Craig's Dad didn't get a picture of what happened next but he was good about picking up the big pack and putting it back in the pram before he received a biscuit.

Back at home Craig helped his Dad with the washing again.

Craig's Dad wanted to take a picture of Uncle Amitha holding the newest member of the Lee family but notice the way Craig has sneaked into the photo! He's a camera hog already!

When Craig first sat down for dinner he looked like he was hungry and wanted to to concentrate on his food.

However, once he'd eaten a bit, Craig began a very unusual conversation with his cousin Soit-Jade.

Another one of Craig's favourite games is playing with the intercom.

Uncle Amitha has learned all about that game.

Meanwhile, Aunty Bess was taking care of her youngest niece.

Because it was the first day of the Lunar New Year and Craig's Grandad was in hospital, everyone trooped off to the hospital to visit. No pictures were taken in the hospital and even the ones taken on the way home weren't very good. This one was just good enough to show how Craig enjoyed walking along with his Taiwanese Grandmother and Dad.

The last picture here was taken one day before the others but it looked so cute that Craig's Dad thought it deserved to be on the blog. Craig reading to Aunty Suprana's dog doesn't happen every day.
