Piano Man

Billy Joel fans beware! Craig started the day last Friday by trying to put a nappy (diaper for our North American friends) on his pet (toy) dog!

Later on the same day Craig was trying out his keyboard skills on Craig's Mum's electric piano. He really did look the part even if it didn't quite sound like music.

Too Young to Have a Girlfriend

Some of Craig's Mum's friends came around to visit one day last week (it might have been Wednesday) but because the group included five children it was decided that the park might be a better place to play than Craig's home.

At the park, the one girl among the five children made sure she took good care of Craig. First helping him up the stairs to the top of the slide.

And then sliding down with him.

While they were on the slide the boys were in the background on a see-saw.

The three boys were all bigger than Craig.

So Craig's protector kept him away from them.

She stayed very close at almost all times.

When Craig's protector and two of the boys got on a four-sided see-saw thingy, the biggest boy jumped off suddenly sending the smaller boy in the yellow shirt sprawling.

When Craig's protector tried to put his panda backpack in a safe place Craig had to follow to see where it was going.

The protector tried to get Craig to lie down with his head on her lap but Craig slipped off the seat just as Craig's Mum was taking a photo.

For most of the time that they were in the park Craig's Mum was able to rest and chat with the other mum's while the protector took good care of Craig.

And Craig seemed pretty happy despite the lack of attention from his Mum.

Trip to Neihu and Daan Forest Park (all in one day)

Monday marked one year since the passing away of Craig's Taiwanese Grandfather according to the lunar calendar.

Craig's Mum took Craig up to the house in the hills where the family had a little ceremony to commemorate the occasion. Afterwards, Craig's Uncle Dean helped Craig steer the little tricycle he was trying to ride.

Unfortunately once Craig's Cousin Soit Jade got involved some of the fun went out of it for Craig.

Craig's Aunty Suprana sometimes seems to have trouble with the idea that her own childhood has ended.

Back inside Craig found a children's xylophone to play with.

There was some happy sharing of the little hammer used to hit the xylophone keys.

And some fairly determined reaching to get the hammer back.

The little bloke in the following picture is one of Craig's second cousins. He lives upstairs on the fourth floor directly above Craig's home. He is also just one month older than Craig but is much, much bigger.

It's a good thing being a chubby baby means he takes after his dad.

After dropping in breifly at home Craig ventured off to Da-an Forest Park. He likes the slide there.

Craig's Mum said that Craig's Great Aunt From the Fifth Floor kept Craig giggling while he ran around and around so that he could go down the slide heaps of times.

Craig likes it when someone keeps him company while he slides.

When Craig's Great Aunt From the Fifth Floor became tired Criag's Uncle Dean took over.

You can tell that the slide is meant for kids, can't you?

Toilet Training Begins

On Sunday morning the weather was much too nice to stay indoors so Craig was taken to the department store not far from home that has a playground on the fourth floor.

Craig has walked this route many times. His panda backpack had been put around the front because the straps kept sliding off his shoulders in the regular position.

Craig played on the slide as usual.

And did some climbing supervised by Craig's Dad while Craig's Mum was inside doing some important shopping.

She purchased a very important piece of equipment.

Craig's parents were told that the bright colors make it attractive to children.

But Craig's Dad thinks that the conveniently placed handles on the sides are more important.

P.S. Poor Craig. Imagine what he will say about this blog and pictures like this when he grows up.

Long Last Day of Holiday

Saturday was Craig's Dad's last day of freedom before returning to the slavery of his job at the TV station. Craig was obviously bored at home so a quick trip on the MRT to the children's floor of the Eslite Xinyi Store.

Craig already knows how this machine works. The first thing that needs to happen is that Craig's Mum puts money (NT$10) in the slot at the top.

Then, out of the bottom comes a SuperBall!

When walking back to the MRT station Craig wanted to be picked up.

And when he got out of the train and up to street level he decided to take another rest at the organic food shop next to the station entrance.

A little girl who was passing by took an interest in his well-being because Craig's Dad was walking away saying "See you later" very loudly and waving goodbye. But, Craig didn't move.

Soon Craig had been carried off to the breakfast shop near home that was still open late enough for him to have lunch. At first he was a bit impatient waiting for his food.

But Craig's Mum is pretty good at keeping the boy busy.

As soon as he arrived home Craig insisted on playing fussball with his Mum.

At first he didn't pay much attention to actually moving his men.

But later when he was playing with Craig's Dad he started to get the idea.

But Craig's parents thought Craig needed to get outside for more exercise.

Craig was very happy playing on the slide when Craig's Dad was close behind.

There was another little boy and his Mum who had been on the slide at the same time as Craig and his Dad and they came to play when Craig's soccer ball was brought out of its bag.

But Craig couldn't stand the sight of someone else playing with his ball and he started crying!!! So the other little boy and his very polite mum were soon gone.

The lack of other people competing for the ball meant Craig was happier about throwing it or kicking to Craig's Dad.

But then he got the idea that it would be fun to throw the ball onto the grass outside of the little fence where they were playing. Craig's Dad would have to get the ball and then he would throw it so that Craig had to do some running to get it back again.

One time when Craig had picked the ball up and was running towards the fence, Craig's Mum was trying to block his way. Craig threw a perfect feint to the left, side-stepped off his left foot like a rugby winger cutting inside and almost ran around Craig's Mum! It might sound a little dull when told as a story but you had to see the obvious natural talent. He's going to be good at some ball games in the future, there's no doubt.

Craig had been running around pretty solidly for more than half an hour before the effort finally became too much and he needed to lie down before beginning the walk home.
